Steroid Use Exposed
In a shocking admission, Alex Roberts, a former employee of Books and Company, has admitted to using steroids during his time here at the store. Having begun his bookselling career on the east coast, he came to the attention of owner Jim Brinkman, when scouts reported that Alex could ‘block and face’ a shelf in record time, as well as multi-task on book orders and a pleasant phone manner at the same time -a feat virtually unknown amongst rookies.
It was in fact during the ramped up sales hype for the seventh and final Harry Potter title that Roberts felt the need to take steroids. He claims that there was a lot of pressure to succeed -to make the most sales, and also to put together the most authentic Severus Snape costume. Roberts admits he succumbed to this pressure, and feels it may have harmed him physically. Also, now that his admission has been made public, he is concerned that people may doubt the sales figures he set during his time at Books and Company (Roberts currently sits second in overall Harry Potter sales in Team B&C record books -with an asterisk now appearing next to his name) Damage to his reputation is inevitable, and his possible shot at a place in the Bookstore Hall of Fame, may now elude him.
Roberts no longer works at Books and Company. at the present time he is working for a Chapters store in Alberta, and claims to no longer use steroids. As if to substantiate his claims, his sales have certainly dropped off in the paste few years, which lead many to ask a number of questions of the sales leaders amongst the current staff. Shockingly, most of the current staff admit to using performance enhancing substances, some of which are freely available in the store!
Amongst the substances most commonly abused were books on advanced sales techniques, and coffee.
