Gordie Tentrees is from the cold and rustic Yukon Territory and writes like a doppelganger of the preeminent Texas storytellers on his third album, Mercy or Sin.  “Alfred” leads off the record, a darkly poignant acoustic tale that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Guy Clark album. (“Walks with a hitch, right side hip, reads a dirt palm, right before he spits, thinks on the rain, hollers for the end, Alfred is old his blood ain't thin.”) But don’t settle in for a languid country/folk songwriter album, because he brings on resophonic guitar and stomp board on a roaring “No Integrity Man.”

Upcoming @ ArtSpace Friday Night Mics Kate Maki
“Like the best country singers, alt or otherwise, Maki's voice is conversational yet somehow self-contained, as if it'd be quite happy talking to itself sitting on an open plain, or whistling to itself behind a wheel.”
- Mojo

“She can sell a song with only her voice and an acoustic guitar.”
- Pitchfork

Opening for Kati will be Halifax Singer Brent Randall

“It’s immediately evident that Randall is a master arranger. It’s also apparent he was going for something grand, and he succeeded in his task by hinting at Broadway aesthetics, big band music, movie musicals and even The Beatles.”

Winner of the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award and the Grand Prize Winner of Toronto's IndieWeek, Peter Katz has been delighting listeners with his captivating blend of folk, rock and pop music. His ethereal vocal work, profoundly honest lyrics and dynamic guitar style have earned him repeated comparisons to such greats as Jeff Buckley, Martin Sexton and Ron Sexsmith. Performing regularly to sold-out crowds across Canada and ever-increasing numbers in Europe and beyond, Katz has been winning over fans the old-fashioned way: one at a time through great music and an intensely powerful live-show.

A Vancouverite and first generation Canadian whose parents sailed from Liverpool, Laurell found herself singing along to the Beatles as soon as she could talk. Living in the Northwest exposed Laurell to the elements: snowboarding, surfing, wake boarding, hiking, and dirtbiking. It was these elements that shaped her appreciation of acoustic, rock, folk, hip-hop, punk, and pop music.  Her classical background and jazz-based schooling provided a framework for all of these inspirations to take shape, and today, Laurell's music has found its way to a playful, acoustic pop sound, while never losing the honesty she so clearly draws from.
With three albums to boast, hundreds of U.S. and Canadian tour dates under her belt, a cluttered shelf of accolades, and a growing grassroots following, singer/songwriter Laurell is finding herself on new ground and jumping in with both feet.
After being named "Vancouver Idol" in 2001 on TV's popular reality show Canadian Idol, Laurell took fate into her own hands and independently released her first full-length album, Into Your Love.
